PSHE

The zones of regulation have been added across the school in addition to the RSHE lessons. These will be taught one lesson every half term over the course of the school year.

Zones of Regulation aims to teach children strategies to help them cope with these feelings so they can get back to feeling calm and ready to learn. These coping strategies are called 'self-regulation'. When children fully understand what they're feeling, they can make sense of, and regulate their emotions much better.

To make them easier to talk about, think about, and regulate, The Zones of Regulation organises our feelings, state of alertness, and energy levels into four coloured Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red.

How do I explain the zones of regulations to my child?

  1. Blue Zone: Feeling sad, tired, or bored.
  2. Green Zone: Feeling calm, happy, and ready to learn.
  3. Yellow Zone: Feeling excited, anxious, or stressed.
  4. Red Zone: Feeling angry, terrified, or out of control.

PSHE

Intent- Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, is a progressive and spiral scheme of learning. In planning the lessons, Jigsaw PSHE ensures that learning from previous years is revisited and extended, adding new concepts, knowledge and skills, year on year as appropriate. The table below draws out the spiral knowledge and skills progression within all six Puzzles (units of work) including the key vocabulary used in each year group; explicit links to the DfE statutory Relationships and Health Education outcomes have been made in each Puzzle.

Implementation: Jigsaw 3-11 offers a comprehensive programme for Primary PSHE, including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

Impact: This can be established through assessment identified in the key learning.
